ST. ESTÈPHE · LEFT BANK
St Estèphe is the northernmost of the most important communes of the Médoc and borders Pauillac on its southernmost border, with only a gully and stream separates it from Ch. Lafite. To the north lies the Bas-Médoc.
St Estèphe is defined by the depth of its gravel, which is ubiquitous but of varying depths and occasionally very shallow, when clay predominates. This keeps the soil cooler and wetter than its counterparts so that the wines can appear fresh in lighter vintages, but superbly successful in hot, dry years.
The best châteauxs in the south of the commune have the deepest soil and the thickest gravel. St Estèphe is the least gravelly of main Médoc communes and in the north of the commune the vineyards are heavier and more clay-based leading to a rustic style of wine being produced.
The wines can appear austere in youth with a discernable ferric note at some châteaux, but the best typically display good depth of colour, pronounced acidity an tannins in youth and are exceptionally long-lived. At their best, they are the equal of almost any Bordeaux. The well-regarded St Estèphe co-operative controls the production of about half the appellation.

2021 CHÂTEAU MONTROSE

· CONVERSION TO ORGANIC - STARTED IN 2019

Website
62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Montrose 2021 is dominated by delicate toasted aromas of pine nuts and hazelnuts. A seductive fragrance of
rose essential oil wafts out with the swirl of the glass, infusing a sense of elegance. I really like Montrose’s
fresh acidity and its layers of dense yet refined tannins. Not only do they fill the entire palate with bright
laughter, but also deliver a more rounded and silkier mouthfeel. If we are to define the previous three
vintages of Montrose as Rhapsody, then the 2021 vintage will be interpreted as an elegant waltz.
Chateau Montrose is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, and grilled dishes.

61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Smooth, nuanced and deep. Sustained by vivaciousness coming from high acidity. The barrel sample reminded
me of the 2005 en primeur, but with more charm. It conveyed 2009 like ripeness, but with greater freshness. Nuance and power, full bodied, and a long finish.
Great with lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

2019 CHÂTEAU TRONQUOY

· ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VITICULTURE
+870072 · 6x750ml
Website
50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot. Formerly called Tronquoy-Lalonde. Despite the blend being 50% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, it is the Cabernet aromas that predominate here with lush notes of plums, spice, cedar wood and liquorice. The wine is silky and a little closed at first. With time it opens up to reveal bramble and cassis fruit and a vein of savoury acidity. There is a firm reverberation of fresh tannin on the long finish which promises well for its aging potential.
Tronquoy Lalande is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, stewed, and grilled dishes. With its spicy character, Tronquoy Lalande also pairs well with a wide variety of Asian dishes.

100% Furmint. ln 2009, Michel Reybier from Chateau Cos d'Estournel in St. Estephe, became the new owner of this historic winery. Fantastic fruity, lightness, airiness almost. It comes from a rich wine, but thanks to 2010, it has incredible refreshing, vibrant acids. Its aroma and taste include fresh pineapple, citrus, white flowers. A vibrant, vibrant, wonderful Aszú wine.
Attractive companion of foie gras or even some spicy oriental food. Goes well with creamy, nutty or fruity desserts, blue cheese.

Website
53% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc. The 2021 vintage wasn’t an easy one for second wines, but this really delivers. The fact that St Estèphe
received less rain at the end of September than further south in the Médoc seems to have helped the property
gain a very homogenous maturity across the board. That shines through in this wine. It is sapid, but with
intensity and a fine, spicy, charcoal edge. It captures the linear appeal of the appellation but without any weak
points. As with the grand vin, at its own level, this is rather special. Drink 2024-2034.
Best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius, 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The cool, almost cellar temperature gives the wine more freshness and lift. Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised, and grilled dishes.

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. From its creation in 1994, Pagodes de Cos has been produced from grapes grown on a clearly identified terroir
whose vines are forty years old on average. Each vintage is an excellent introduction to the style of Cos
d’Estournel. True to the spirit of Pagodes de Cos, the 2021 vintage is succulent, serious, and sophisticated, a
wine that is delightful from a young age. Pronounced notes of blueberry, redcurrant, and strawberry are
complemented by smoky, chocolate aromas and a touch of cinnamon that lend a certain complexity, making for
a round, elegant, immensely enjoyable wine.
The wines from Chateau Cos d’Estournel is best served at 17-18 degrees Celsius. As they continue to warm up in the glass, they will release their full palette of aromas and reveal their most subtle, delicate nuances. Older vintages might need very little decanting, just enough to remove the sediment. Best served with all types of classic.
