PESSAC-LÉOGNAN · LEFT BANK

In 1986 a new communal district was created within Graves, based on the districts of Pessac and Léognan, the first of which lies within the suburbs of the city. Essentially this came about through pressure from Pessac-Léognan vignerons who wished to disassociate themselves from growers with predominately sandy soils further south in Graves. Pessac-Léognan has the best soils of the region, very similar to those of the Médoc, although the depth of gravel is more variable, and contains all the classed growths of the region. Some of its great names, including Ch. Haut-Brion, even sit serenely and resolutely in Bordeaux's southern urban sprawl. The climate is milder than to the north of the city and the harvest can occur up to two weeks earlier. This gives the best wines a heady, rich and almost savoury character, laced with notes of tobacco, spice and leather. Further south, the soil is sandier with more clay, and the wines are lighter, fruity and suitable for earlier drinking.

Château Baret is an outsider within the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Indeed, even if it displays a lower price than that of the big names in the region, it has absolutely nothing to envy them! Let yourself be seduced by its charming bouquet, its fresh attack and its irresistible price-pleasure ratio. Appearance: pale yellow with light green reflections Nose: fresh, on boxwood, lemongrass, mint and vanilla Palate: attractive, fresh attack, both nervous and refined, citrus fruits (candied lemon), return of mint, apple, subtle woody notes.

When tasted, our fine white wine offers magnificent tension and an explosion of aromas, demonstrating how perfect the weather conditions were for whites. The cool summer temperatures preserved their acidity and aromas. Delicate on the nose with lemon, citrus and white flower notes. And what sensuality on the palate! Full and powerful in the attack, with a precise, lingering finish featuring an addictive touch of sweetness. For our fine red wine, this vintage was very good for Cabernet Sauvignon. This gives the wine its ripe, soft tannins and its deep colour. On the nose, subtle fresh fruit and cherry aromas unfurl over a delicately oaky base. On the palate, the wine is fruity and unctuous in the attack, before revealing silky, caressing tannins. The finish is soft and long with crisp, lingering fruit.
Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

Strong ruby colour. The nose is deep and cool, a fantastic scent, floral notes, cassis, blackberries, subtle wood from barrel aging. The palate is spicy, fresh, clear and pure like a mountain stream, the wine has a very good structure, shows a lot of Cabernet character, that is once again pure precision, the tannins are striking, super finely woven, the acidity is perfectly dosed. The finish has a very nice length, ends with red fruit and delicate spice. Whatever they do on Haut-Bailly is once again excellent.

The 2020 vintage is characterized by its power and its fresh and dense fruit. Fine and precise tannins announce a great aging capability. Delicate, dark fruity nose, shows blackberries, prunes, herbs, cinnamon. Soft on the palate, round, almost plump, then grabs, the tannins mark, have a slightly drying effect, give the fruit a tight corset, in the middle palate with an aromatic sag. Short, slightly drying finish. 2024-2035.

100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Colour is pale yellow with silver highlights. The nose is intense, complex, revealing delicate notes of white fruit (pear, peach) and citrus (pomelo, lime). The attack is ample. It is a fine and elegant wine, with a lot of volume in the middle of the mouth: a nice fatness, a nice freshness, a well-integrated woodiness. The notesof ripe white fruit (pear, peach) and citrus peel blend harmoniously together, enhanced by a hint of vanilla. Long and complex finish.
This wine is the perfect accompaniment to a meal from the starter to the cheese platter. It is equally delicious served with asparagus in gribiche sauce, turbot with morel mushrooms or hard cheeses such as Cantal, Beaufort, etc.
Goes perfectly with starters, sweetbreads, shellfish, fish, white meats, and cheese. The long aftertaste goes beautifully with lobster as well as sheep's cheese from the Pyrenees. Will also go well with salads, lobster thermidor or crab stuffed sea urchins.

This glorious wine typifies everything that makes La Mission Haut-Brion so appealing and why it is a habitual winner in blind tastings amongst the first growths. Beautifully polished loganberry and wild berry aromas, with hints of dark currants. This balances a lovely silky texture, with volume and richness, whilst maintaining a continuous flow of tannic structure throughout the palate. Initial tastings reveal great elegance, with silky, very sophisticated red wines, characterized by freshness and aromatic clarity. There is good density with a velvety tannin texture. The whites are very fresh and offer good concentration with a beautiful fruitiness. It is thus a vintage that depended very much on the terroir and the winegrower: adaptation, agility and responsiveness were necessary at all stages of the vintage, with late pruning, maintenance of the plant cover with little ploughing, early and high-quality green harvesting to ensure uniform ripening, and management of the harvests on a daily basis with rapid decision-making. Our excellent knowledge of Malartic’s terroir enabled us to anticipate its reactions and thus maintain the quality and excellence of Malartic’s grands vins.
