PESSAC-LÉOGNAN · LEFT BANK
In 1986 a new communal district was created within Graves, based on the districts of Pessac and Léognan, the first of which lies within the suburbs of the city. Essentially this came about through pressure from Pessac-Léognan vignerons who wished to disassociate themselves from growers with predominately sandy soils further south in Graves.
Pessac-Léognan has the best soils of the region, very similar to those of the Médoc, although the depth of gravel is more variable, and contains all the classed growths of the region. Some of its great names, including Ch. Haut-Brion, even sit serenely and resolutely in Bordeaux's southern urban sprawl.
The climate is milder than to the north of the city and the harvest can occur up to two weeks earlier. This gives the best wines a heady, rich and almost savoury character, laced with notes of tobacco, spice and leather. Further south, the soil is sandier with more clay, and the wines are lighter, fruity and suitable for earlier drinking.

64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. When tasted, our fine white wine offers magnificent tension and an explosion of aromas, demonstrating how
perfect the weather conditions were for whites. The cool summer temperatures preserved their acidity and
aromas. Delicate on the nose with lemon, citrus and white flower notes. And what sensuality on the palate! Full
and powerful in the attack, with a precise, lingering finish featuring an addictive touch of sweetness.
For our fine red wine, this vintage was very good for Cabernet Sauvignon. This gives the wine its ripe, soft
tannins and its deep colour. On the nose, subtle fresh fruit and cherry aromas unfurl over a delicately oaky base.
On the palate, the wine is fruity and unctuous in the attack, before revealing silky, caressing tannins. The finish
is soft and long with crisp, lingering fruit.

+888351 · 6x750ml
Website
37% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot. The march of Carmes Haut-Brion continues in 2018. Once again it stands out for a number of reasons: not least because of its high amount of Cabernet Franc,
and also because it is made with 53% whole-bunch fermentation - a brave choice by winemaker Guillaume Poutier and one that pays off hugely in terms of balance and lean muscular build. Even without knowing any of the
story behind the bottle, you would be hard-pressed to pass this wine by. It has obvious intensity but as you sit with it the softness and approachability of the tannins becomes apparent, helped by the inviting floral
edge to the nose, adding peony and violet lift. The black fruits running through the palate are tight but silky and seductive - this has a higher Cab count than usual because the Merlots were more affected by the
challenges of the vintage. The palate pulses, switching between richness and delicacy, feeling expertly handled. You get the feeling that you can relax - they've got everything covered!
It will inevitably close down in a few years, but until then you could almost go for it with a good carafe

aromatic clarity. There is good density with a velvety tannin texture. The whites are very fresh and offer good
concentration with a beautiful fruitiness. It is thus a vintage that depended very much on the terroir and the
winegrower: adaptation, agility and responsiveness were necessary at all stages of the vintage, with late
pruning, maintenance of the plant cover with little ploughing, early and high-quality green harvesting to ensure
uniform ripening, and management of the harvests on a daily basis with rapid decision-making. Our excellent
knowledge of Malartic’s terroir enabled us to anticipate its reactions and thus maintain the quality and

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot. Very deep, intense black color. The nose is already expressive with a mix of red and black (blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, raspberry)
and spices, characteristic of perfectly ripe grapes. Swirling in the glass reveals considerable complexity with delicate floral notes, sweet spices, and gunflint. The wine starts out broad-based, concentrated,
and powerful on the palate. The tannin is rich without compromising on freshness, balance, and delicate flavors. The expression "an iron first in a velvet glove" perfectly sums up this wine!
Best served with meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, chicken, roasted braised and grilled dishes.

To celebrate Olivier Bernard's 40th harvest at the helm of the estate, the bottles of this 2022 vintage are adorned with a unique label, illustrated with the work created in 1941 by the famous Chinese artist, Xu Bei Hong, who was a student at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. "Cheval Galopant" is a powerful symbol of the dynamism of Domaine de Chevalier since its acquisition by the Bernard family in 1983. A subtle blend of freshness and intensity, this Pessac-Léognan white wine reveals a delicate touch and a refined expression of the aromas specific to each plot.
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a perfect wine to serve with all types of seafood, fish, shellfish, crab, lobster, chicken, veal, port and of course cheese.
