MARGAUX · LEFT BANK

If Pauillac can be seen as the bastion of "traditional" Red Bordeaux, then Margaux represents its other facet in producing wines that are among the most sensual and alluring of Bordeaux. It is the biggest commune in the Médoc encompassing the communes of Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac andLabaude in addition to Margaux itself It is located in the centre of the Haut-Médoc, and is the closest of the important communes to the city of Bordeaux. The soils in Margaux are the lightest and most gravelly of the Médoc with some of the soils also containing a high percentage of sand. Vineyards located in Cantenac and Margaux make up the core of the appelation with the best vineyard sites being located on well-drained slopes. It is these lighter, well-drained soils which give Margaux its deft touch and silky perfumes. Further from the water there is a greater clay content and the wines are less dramatically perfumed. Margaux is the most diffuse of all the Médoc appelations with a reputation for scaling the heights with irreproachable wines such as Ch. Margaux and Ch. Palmer, but also plumbing the depths, with too many other Château not fulfilling their potential. There has been an upward shift in recent years, but the appellation cannot yet boast the reliability of St Julien. However the finest Margaux are exquisitely perfumed and and are models of refinement and subtlety which have few parallels in Bordeaux.

For this 2020 vintage, our aim was to continue in the same vein as 2019, while preserving the typical characteristics of Château Giscours. To achieve this, our objective was to work on two notions that are close to our hearts: aromatic brilliance and fine tannins. The technical team at Giscours took great care to give each plant individual attention. Our vine-growers and winemakers have detailed knowledge of the terroir and the rows they are in charge of, and they consider these plots of vines as micro-gardens that they tend with great care. We are very proud of the 2020 vintage. Our team’s in- depth knowledge of the terroir and their risk-taking have produced a voluptuous wine. It is generous, with great personality. It has all the power and fleshiness of Château Giscours and evokes a taffeta texture with silky tannins. It is a vintage that reflects the meticulous and bold approach that guided our team during this atypical year.

89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot.
The quality of Château Margaux 2017 comes close to its illustrious predecessors without pretending to rival the generosity of 2015 or the elegance of 2016. Nonetheless, it has a rightful place in the estate’s lineage of great vintages: it is profound, complex, intense and long. In some respects, it even surpasses our hopes following September’s rainfall and demonstrates yet again to what extent great terroirs are capable of transmitting all their best qualities into the wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon is always the heart and the framework for Château Margaux, accounting for 89% of the blend. Upon tasting, the tannins were perfectly ripe, which reassured us that our decision to wait a few more days before harvesting was the right choice. The wines’ structure remains a rare combination of power and refinement. Cabernet Franc (2%) and Petit Verdot (1%) round out the blend for this wine. Château Margaux represents 37% of the harvest.
Chateau Margaux is best paired with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

The 2015 Margaux is a dense, rich and powerful wine that shows a velvety texture and a long, sweet finish. There is plenty of structure and tannin here for the long haul, but it is difficult to find underneath such copious amounts of fruit. Along with nearly perfect balance this definitely a candidate for wine of the vintage!

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
This wine has an extraordinary aromatic finesse, a tannic richness, and a particularly dense and tight-knit texture. The finish is very long, fresh, and lively, a little bit firm but already packed with flavor. Such balance is a brilliant expression of Chateau Margaux's noble terroir. 2006 is a great Château Margaux vintage. Of course, it is not 2005, or 2000; those vintages are exceptional. But it does have both the grace and the purity of the 1996, the so classic freshness of the 2004 and the heady power of the 1986 or the 1995. Such balance is a brilliant expression of Château Margaux’s noble terroir but demands a little patience. We recommend waiting for several more years.

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot.
The robe is a dark red color, with elegant garnet tinted reflections. The nose reveals a beautiful purity of fruit, with notes of black cherry, raspberry and black currant, enhanced by pepper and cocoa. The attack is supple, giving way to a silky and dense body carried by elegant tannins. Evolving with precision on greedy flavors of red berries and spices, it rises crescendo in volume and freshness. It blooms on a long, fruity and persistent finish. A Margaux wine of great finesse.
Château Marquis de Terme 2015 will pair deliciously with a Châteaubriand with truffle sauce, a famous roast chicken, duck breast with Pinot Noir sauce, venison hazelnuts or veal grenadin with morel sauce. For a pairing with cheese, prefer pressed and uncooked cheeses: cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme de Savoie. It can also be enjoyed with Brie de Meaux, Gouda or Salers. For dessert, it will be particularly exquisite with a raspberry and chocolate charlotte, Ricardo Larrivée's chocolate cake or a praline entremet.
