MARGAUX · LEFT BANK

If Pauillac can be seen as the bastion of "traditional" Red Bordeaux, then Margaux represents its other facet in producing wines that are among the most sensual and alluring of Bordeaux. It is the biggest commune in the Médoc encompassing the communes of Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac andLabaude in addition to Margaux itself It is located in the centre of the Haut-Médoc, and is the closest of the important communes to the city of Bordeaux. The soils in Margaux are the lightest and most gravelly of the Médoc with some of the soils also containing a high percentage of sand. Vineyards located in Cantenac and Margaux make up the core of the appelation with the best vineyard sites being located on well-drained slopes. It is these lighter, well-drained soils which give Margaux its deft touch and silky perfumes. Further from the water there is a greater clay content and the wines are less dramatically perfumed. Margaux is the most diffuse of all the Médoc appelations with a reputation for scaling the heights with irreproachable wines such as Ch. Margaux and Ch. Palmer, but also plumbing the depths, with too many other Château not fulfilling their potential. There has been an upward shift in recent years, but the appellation cannot yet boast the reliability of St Julien. However the finest Margaux are exquisitely perfumed and and are models of refinement and subtlety which have few parallels in Bordeaux.

2021 CHÂTEAU BRANE CANTENAC
· MARGAUX AOC   2ND GRAND CRU CLASSÉ
· ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY VITICULTURE
+888284 · 6x750ml
Website

74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenère.
The toasty aromas of Brane-Cantenac are more pronounced this year. But on the palate, it still delivers a matured and sophisticated expression as usual, without any trace of the 2021's character. I really like the texture of the tannins, possesive yet ingenious, combined with a mellow density on the taste buds. This is not only a credit to R'pulse maceration, but also to the winery's near-frenzied selection of the press wine. Christophe, the technical director, told me that they have blended the best 12.7% from more than 100 samples into the Grand Vin, and eventually resulted in this surprising Brane-Cantenac 2021.
Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

2021 CHÂTEAU DURFORT-VIVENS
· MARGAUX AOC   2ND GRAND CRU CLASSÉ
· CERTIFIED BIODYNAMIC (2016)
+102900 · 6x750ml
Website

97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot.
Dominated by the Cabernets this year (the blend is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot), this is a lovely fleshy attractive wine with classic aromas of blackcurrant, wildflowers, and a touch of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is round and smooth with good blackcurrant sweetness; some spice and lively, prickly tannins which are structured but well integrated. This year’s Durfort is a lovely, happy wine, very much at ease with itself and showing no trauma in spite of the difficult climate. It is elegantly balanced with an appetizing finish which brings the wine’s different characteristics together.
Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

2021 was marked by a memorable harvest, in which we had to be patient, make precise choices and wait for each vine plant, each plot and each terroir to be ready to surrender its berries. The harvesting of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes lasted more than a month, sometimes with intervals of several days, inviting the grapes to achieve their best expression. That precision shines through in this Château Giscours: a luminous wine, with the aromatic brilliance and fine tannins we look for at Giscours. A lovely, balanced structure, with a great freshness. Château Giscours 2021 is the perfect expression of the vintage. It reveals the risk-taking and meticulous work required of our teams, in deep harmony with our terroir. It is a wine we are proud of.
Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

Website

56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot.
For this 2020 vintage, our aim was to continue in the same vein as 2019, while preserving the typical characteristics of Château Giscours. To achieve this, our objective was to work on two notions that are close to our hearts: aromatic brilliance and fine tannins. The technical team at Giscours took great care to give each plant individual attention. Our vine-growers and winemakers have detailed knowledge of the terroir and the rows they are in charge of, and they consider these plots of vines as micro-gardens that they tend with great care. We are very proud of the 2020 vintage. Our team’s in- depth knowledge of the terroir and their risk-taking have produced a voluptuous wine. It is generous, with great personality. It has all the power and fleshiness of Château Giscours and evokes a taffeta texture with silky tannins. It is a vintage that reflects the meticulous and bold approach that guided our team during this atypical year.
Best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

The robe is a dark red color, with elegant garnet tinted reflections. The nose reveals a beautiful purity of fruit, with notes of black cherry, raspberry and black currant, enhanced by pepper and cocoa. The attack is supple, giving way to a silky and dense body carried by elegant tannins. Evolving with precision on greedy flavors of red berries and spices, it rises crescendo in volume and freshness. It blooms on a long, fruity and persistent finish. A Margaux wine of great finesse.
Château Marquis de Terme 2015 will pair deliciously with a Châteaubriand with truffle sauce, a famous roast chicken, duck breast with Pinot Noir sauce, venison hazelnuts or veal grenadin with morel sauce. For a pairing with cheese, prefer pressed and uncooked cheeses: cantal, old mimolette, morbier, saint-nectaire and tomme de Savoie. It can also be enjoyed with Brie de Meaux, Gouda or Salers. For dessert, it will be particularly exquisite with a raspberry and chocolate charlotte, Ricardo Larrivée's chocolate cake or a praline entremet.
