HAUT-MÉDOC · LEFT BANK

Includes Moulis-en-Médoc, Médoc, and Listrac-Médoc wines.
Despite being as visually unprepossessing as the rest of the Médoc (despite its grandiose châteaux) this large red-wine appellation of Haut-Médoc is home to some of the world’s greatest wines. Its 4,500ha of vineyards form a largely continuous strip that follows the Gironde from St Seurin-de-Cadourne, just north of St Estèphe, to Blanquefort in the northern suburbs of Bordeaux. All the great communes of the Left Bank fall within its boundaries: Margaux, St Julien, Pauillac and St Estèphe, as well as the up and coming Moulis and Listrac. These are labeled under their own more illustrious and expensive appellation names. Châteaux labeled simply as Haut-Médoc rarely reach such heights but nevertheless offer consistently good quality and offer some of the best value in Bordeaux. Haut-Médoc wines tend to be firm and fine with generous fruit and a nice minerality; what many would consider ‘classic Claret’. They come from loftier vineyards and offer higher quality and more complexity than those labeled simply as Médoc. Almost all wines are a blend of the principal varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc - which helps producers hedge their bets if the slightly capricious climate causes one variety to fail. Small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and even Carmenère are also used.

Website

55% Semillon, 45% Sauvignon Blanc.
An emblematic label of Moulis, Château Chasse-Spleen is expressing its historic expertise in white. Blanc de Chasse-Spleen is the result of a gamble, that of creating a great wine of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc on a red soil, four hectares planted from the beginning of the 90s, for a first vintage in 1995. Its 2022 is adorned with an elegant pale yellow and soft green color, followed by a nose picked by aromas of Spanish melon and white flowers. The attack is lively, the mouth displays a nice fatness and stretches into a long, persistent finish.
Serve as an Aperitif, or serve with Seafood, fish - such as Bream and salmon.

The 2021 vintage presents fresh, graceful, well-built fruit, with a still tight heart that will age well. This is once again a great success, and we salute the price level allocated in relation to the quality. Deep garnet. On the nose, fruity notes dominate. This is a modern wine from this modest appellation where the search for fruit and purity are the guiding principles. The balance on palate makes for a wine that can be drunk young although it can still benefit from ageing. Of good length, this wine expresses the qualities of a good Bordeaux.
The wine of Chateau Charmail is best served with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes.

Opaque ruby to garnet in colour with good acidity, an intense nose, plush tannin & a long length on the finish. This entry is elegant, fine, and racy. The palate is fat, long, and powerful. It is very fresh and unctuous in the mouth; this reveals sweetness is perfectly balanced by acidity. Ends with a lingering finish. This is a wine with plenty of expression.
